Jacob Gordon Injury Law · Selected settlements
A settlement tells only part of the story. These cases show how preserving video, challenging an insurer’s position, and investigating additional coverage affected the outcome for individual clients.
Past results do not guarantee a similar outcome. These are selected settlements, each based on its own facts, injuries, evidence, available coverage, and legal issues. The time needed to resolve another claim may differ.
Where a settlement is compared with an outstanding medical balance, the settlement is the total recovery before attorney’s fees, case costs, medical bills, and liens. The comparison uses the medical balance outstanding at settlement, not the client’s net recovery or necessarily the original amount billed. These ratios are not a formula for valuing another claim.
Policy limits · Resolved within weeks
The challenge: A rear-end collision caused no property damage. The injury claim still required attention to the person involved and the available insurance coverage.
The outcome: Jake secured a policy-limit settlement within weeks of the accident.
Disputed fault resolved · Two policy-limit settlements
The challenge: The insurer disputed responsibility for the collision. Jake secured security video early in the claim, and the insurer changed its liability position and admitted responsibility.
The outcome: The vehicle’s insurer paid its policy limits. Jake then conducted further coverage research and investigation, identified additional coverage available through a family member of the at-fault party, and obtained a second policy-limit settlement.
Policy limits · Nearly 60× the outstanding medical balance
The challenge: The client sustained a soft tissue injury and received conservative care only. The claim was resolved within months of the accident.
The outcome: Jake secured the applicable policy limits. The total settlement before attorney’s fees and costs was nearly 60 times the client’s outstanding medical balance at settlement.
Improved insurer offer · Recovery beyond remaining coverage
The challenge: The client initially negotiated on her own. The insurer offered a nominal amount and declined to increase it, despite her requests for the remaining policy limits. She then hired Jake.
The outcome: With the underlying claim circumstances unchanged, Jake negotiated a settlement in excess of the remaining available policy limits. The client’s net recovery exceeded the amount she had sought while handling the claim herself.
Early evidence · Full liability accepted · More than 26×
The challenge: Responsibility for the crash could have been disputed. Jake personally obtained security footage from a nearby business early in the claim.
The outcome: The insurer accepted 100% liability, and the claim settled within months of the accident. The total settlement before attorney’s fees and costs exceeded 26 times the client’s outstanding medical balance at settlement.
Two UM carriers · Resolution within months · More than 22×
The challenge: An unwitnessed hit-and-run collision caused minor vehicle damage, soft tissue injuries, and a mild traumatic brain injury. The claim involved two uninsured motorist insurance carriers.
The outcome: Jake navigated the claims with both UM carriers and secured a resolution within months of the accident. The total settlement before attorney’s fees and costs exceeded 22 times the client’s outstanding medical bills at settlement.
The evidence, available coverage, and effect of an injury deserve a careful review. Jake works directly with clients to investigate those questions and explain their options.
